The Art of Number, Proportion & Judgment

Arithmetic is the study of numbers and their relationships.
It appears not only in math class, but wherever we measure, compare, budget, or estimate. Freemasons have long valued arithmetic because numbers help societies make fair and practical decisions—from building projects to shared resources.

Your Task

In 750–1,000 words, reflect on an experience where working with numbers changed how you understood a situation. You may draw from: Math or economics classes Budgeting time or money Data used in science or social studies Sports statistics or performance tracking A moment when numbers challenged an assumption

Consider: How numbers clarified or complicated the issue Whether they were used honestly or selectively What you learned about fairness, scale, or limits This is not about being “good at math.” It is about understanding what numbers do.
